Darlington 10k Posted by Rachel Back to HH news

RachelIt was a cool morning when we set off from my parent’s house.  To be fair, this is the north east of England, where mornings are either cool, cold or f***ing freezing!  The local town was staging a 10Km road race, with a couple of other runs for the younger athletes.

Alex was up first with his 1 mile family run.  He stormed off and with a brief breather on the second lap, came in a commendable 10th.  Most importantly, he came away with a medal!  Holly was off next and was one of the youngest in the 11-16 chip-timed 3km race.  It was a smallish group of 38 competitors, some of which turned out to be seniors!  She did brilliantly, but was gutted with going 1 second over 15 minutes.  I still think she did bl@@dy marvellous, coming in as third junior girl, but then I am her mum.

No dear, its your soleus not your silly-arse!

The 10k was a two lap course through some nice residential parts of the town (although the car advertising the Porche Escort Agency did seem a little out of place!).  All in all it was a good day for the Jones running team (those of you who have spotted a name missing from the running list – someone had to look after the dog!).  If any of you are thinking of a visit to the Dales in August and would fancy a fairly quick 10K, then I can heartily recommend the area and the race – just don’t forget your thermals!
